BBQ King has now CLOSED FOR BUSINESS
BBQ King in Chinatown is a Sydney Institution. Many lovers of BBQ King were shocked and upset when after more than 35 years, BBQ King closed down on Goulburn Street in Sydney’s Chinatown.
The wait is over! BBQ King is open again, re-opened at new premises just 1 block away on Liverpool Street Sydney. The new restaurant has a shiny new kitchen which you can see into, with the famous Roast duck and BBQ pork hanging in the windows.
Reopened at the beginning of May 2016 spread the word that the BBQ King is back!
Review time
I went in for a quick lunch today (Tuesday 11th May 2016) as was keen to try the food again. I had my heart set on trying their BBQ Pork or their roast duck. I presume the renovations to the new establishment was costly, as the first thing I noticed were the prices have gone up. For a plate of BBQ Pork or a plate of roast duck were each over $30. That was a bit much for my quick lunch. A full Peking Duck, served in 2 courses is $88, not so bad if you are sharing with 4 people!
Further in on the menu, on the Noodle dishes page I found what would satisfy me. It was Roast Duck and BBQ Pork on Dry Noodles for $19.80! I get to try both the delicious meats and for under $20. The slices of pork and duck were served on a huge pile of thin egg noodles which were laying on top of an ample amount of Chinese vegetables.
What is my verdict? The KING is back! BBQ Kings still does the best BBQ pork in Sydney! Oh that delicious firm pork meat with the bright red coating and the blackened edges is oh so delightful! I have not had BBQ pork as good as you get at BBQ King! The duck was delicious too. The skin is the best bit, crispy and delicious.
And the best news from the new BBQ King! They still do the free house soup. You have to ask for it but if you do they bring you out a massive soup bowl filled with soup broth with bones and vegetables
