Getting to the airport

I was staying at the Hilton Resort on Denarau Island. The taxi took around 25 minutes to get to the airport.

At the airport

Nadi Airport is quite a modern airport though it is not that large. At the entrance there is a Burger King and another restaurant called Koko Nui Cafe.

Once you pass through immigration there is a large food court with a good selection of food including a Gloria Jean’s Coffeeshop, Pizzeria and another Burger King. There is also some shopping including a WH Smith Book store, Rip Curl store, Nike store and a Prouds Jewellery Galleria.

With a Business Class comes access to the Fiji Airways Premiere Lounge. On the morning I was leaving, all flights were delayed due to a huge tropical electrical storm (this was just 2 days before Cyclone Keni). My flight was delayed 3 hours so it was extra nice to have access to the Premiere Lounge to sit back and relax.

In the Business Premiere Lounge they had a good selection of food for breakfast and a barista making fresh coffee.

The seat

The Business class section of the Fiji Airways A330-200 has some very comfortable business class seats. The seat is a total lay flat seat so you can stretch back and get some decent sleep during the flight.

This flight was a day flight so I didn’t stretch back and sleep but reclined a little bit and watched movies on their quality entertainment system.

The Business Class seat has an electricity plug to plug in a laptop or electrical device and it also has a USB port to charge up your phone.

The Entertainment

The entertainment system has is a nice sized 15.4″ wide screen and is loaded up with heaps of recent release movies and TV shows. This flight is long enough to get to watch 2 movies in full. There is also a very nice flight map available to see the progress of the flight.

They also provide you with a good quality set of noise canceling headphones.

There is also a copy of the Fiji Airways inflight magazine called ‘Fiji Time’ which has some great travel articles about the spectacular destinations in Fiji.

The food

Before take-off, instead of the usual glass of Champagne, Fiji Airways serves a glass of delicious Fijian Rum punch. I presume Fijian Rum is brewed from coconuts as this punch had a delightful coconut flavour. I will need to buy a bottle of Fijian Rum!

The food on Fiji Airways is some of the best food I have eaten on any airline! I have flown more than 20 airlines in the last 3 years and the breakfast served on this flight was without a doubt the best breakfast I have had onboard a plane.

This flight was due to leave at 9am so it was a breakfast service. The flight was delayed 3 hours so left at midday though the breakfast was stil served. I guess the food had already been loaded on the plane and I was not disappointed getting breakfast at lunch time as the meal was outstanding.

Breakfast on this flight was a 3 course event. The first course was some fresh fruit slices and some yoghurt berry compote and granola parfait. This was just delightful. Nice and fresh yoghurt with the crunchy granola and the sweet compote.

Next up was a choice of freshly baked pastries and croissants. I enjoed a nice croissant which was served with some butter and strawberry jam.

Then there was a choice of the main event. The main meal choices were a Cheese and Chive omelette served with chicken sausage, tomato eggplant ragout and lyonnaise potato with sauteed onion and parsley. Chocolate pancakes with whipped cream and strawberry coulis or the main course that I chose, the Eggless Masala ‘dosa’ crepe with a filling of potato and pumpkin served with coconut chutney, tomato and yoghurt raita.

The Masala dosa crepe was delicious, something I have never had for breakfast before but would easily choose this again in a flash.

I also had a mug of coffee which was a nice change to the small cups of coffee you get on other airlines.

The Service

The service is another big plus onboard Fiji Airways. The Fijian people have been rated the ‘happiest people on earth’ and this reflects in the service they provide. The crew are genuinely friendly, happy and provice great, effortless service.

Final word on this flight

This was my second flight with Fiji Airways, the first being the flight from Sydney to Nadi. Fiji Airways has quickly become one of the my favourite airlines. With the great service, friendly staff and awesome food, I am keen and ready for my next flight with Fiji Airways.

Fiji Aiways has direct flights to Nadi from Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Auckland, Los Angeles and in 2018 they have their newest route between Tokyo and Nadi.
