Sky Chinese Yum Cha Restaurant Gold Coast

I have tried lots of different Chinese Yum Cha restaurants on the Gold Coast and always found them to be OK but not as good as the Yum Cha restaurants you find in Sydney, especially in Sydney’s Chinatown. That all changed when I went into Sky Chinese Restaurant which is located right next to the Hilton Hotel in Surfers Paradise.

I was staying at the Hilton Hotel and walked past and saw that there was a new Chinese restaurant had just opened at the end of 2014. I looked at their menu and discovered that they served Yum Cha at lunch times. Next day I went in to try the Yum Cha and was really impressed with all the dishes.

Rather than having trolleys that come around for you to choose the already cooked yum cha dishes, you order from the menu and then each dish comes out fresh and hot.

Sky Chinese Restaurant has fresh seafood tanks in the restaurant with a selection of fish and seafood for you to choose and have it taken to the kitchen. The freshest seafood you can get! They have some of the largest crabs available.

I love my BBQ pork buns so had to try them at this restaurant and they were delicious. Light fluffy buns with nice chunks of pork inside with a yummy strong bbq flavour.

I also tried their steamed prawn dumplings (Hao gao) and these were nice big plump prawns and a very nice dumpling wrapping which was firm and didn’t fall apart when you picked them up with your chopsticks.

I also tried some scallop dumplings and some of the flat rice noodles filled with beef. Each of the dishes were well prepared and very tasty. Definitely the best yum cha I have tried on the Gold Coast.

Overall the meal was great and not too expensive, costing just over $20 for these dishes, a Chinese beer Tsing Tao and some Chinese tea. I will definitely go back here and really want to try their dinner menu which has heaps of different Cantonese meals and specialises in seafood dishes.
