Assumption Cathedral is the main Catholic Church in Bangkok. Dating back to 1809, this is a spectacular Cathedral, right down near the Chao Phraya Riverfront. This church has received visits from 2 Popes. The first was John Paul II who visited in 1984 and teh 2nd was Pope Francis in 2019.

There are still regular services held at the Church. During daytimes you can go inside the Cathedral to see the ornate decorations inside like the stained glass windows.

The Assumption Cathedral is a short walk from the Shangri-la Hotel. The church grounds consists of the Cathedral, a Convent and several Catholic Schools and Colleges.

On the right handside before you enter, there is a statue of Saint Pope John Paul II to commemorate his visit in 1984.
