Sydney CBD Restaurants
February 4, 2026If you’re in Sydney CBD and craving classic pub grub with a side of live sports on massive screens, The Office Hotel on the corner of Kent and Erskine Streets is a winner. Just a quick 5-minute walk from Wynyard Station (or even closer to Town Hall), this multi-level sports bar and bistro delivers solid, satisfying food in a lively atmosphere — perfect for lunch, dinner, or watching the game.
Sports Bar at The Office Hotel Sydney CBD
The popular Sports Bar at The Office Hotel in Sydney CBD
Downstairs is the buzzing sports bar with huge TVs blasting UFC, NBA, NFL, NRL, AFL, A-League, Formula 1 — basically anything live. Upstairs is the more relaxed bistro area where the food shines. I’ve been making my way through their menu, and while there’s still plenty left to try, here’s what stands out so far (prices as of early 2026).
Close-up of the Southern Fried Chicken Burger at The Office Hotel Sydney CBD – seeded bun, golden brown chicken fillet, cheese, and coleslaw.
Beef Brisket Tacos Monday Lunch Special
Standout Dishes
Chicken Burger ($24)This is the clear winner so far. Buttermilk-fried chicken breast, American cheese, chilli mayo, crisp lettuce, pickles, all on a sesame seed bun. Juicy, crispy, perfectly balanced — one of the best chicken burgers I’ve had in Sydney CBD.
Beef Brisket Tacos (Monday Lunch Special $18)Not Taco Tuesday, but Taco Monday delivered. Three soft flour tortillas stuffed with tender, flavorful beef brisket, fresh salsa, and all the fixings. Spicy, satisfying, and great value — made me rethink why I don’t eat more tacos.
Steak SandwichClassic pub comfort done right: tender rump steak, caramelised onion, lettuce, tomato, cheese, bourbon BBQ sauce, and honey mustard mayo on toasted sourdough. Hearty, messy in the best way, and full of flavor.
Chicken Schnitzel (Wednesday Lunch Special $20)Thick, juicy schnitzel with a generous pile of chips. I prefer a thinner schnitty, but at $20 with that size portion, it’s unbeatable value. Solid, no-frills pub classic.

What’s Next on My List
I still have steaks, Bangers and Mash, Fish and Chips, and more to try. The menu is broad enough to keep me coming back — especially with those lunch specials making it easy on the wallet.
Verdict
The Office Hotel isn’t flashy or gourmet, but it nails what a good pub should: generous portions, high-quality ingredients, tasty comfort food, and a great spot to watch sport. Prices are fair for CBD, service is friendly, and the upstairs bistro feels relaxed yet lively. If you’re near Wynyard or Town Hall and want a proper pub feed, head to The Office — you won’t be disappointed.

Highly recommended for anyone wanting reliable pub food in the city.

January 24, 2026Nazimi Japanese Restaurant: My Go-To Authentic Japanese Gem in Sydney CBD
If you’re hunting for a true taste of Tokyo right in the heart of Sydney, Nazimi Japanese Restaurant on York Street is hands-down one of my all-time favorites. I’ve been coming back here for years, and every visit feels like stepping into a cozy, no-fuss eatery in Japan—fresh, flavorful, and full of that genuine hospitality.
Nazimi has been delighting Sydney diners for over 20 years (established in the early 2000s, a testament to its consistent quality and loyal following. Tucked downstairs just behind the iconic Queen Victoria Building (QVB), it’s a quick 2-minute walk from Town Hall Station—super convenient for CBD workers, shoppers, or anyone craving real Japanese food without the hype.
The iconic steep staircase entrance to Nazimi Japanese Restaurant in Sydney CBD
Step inside Nazimi Japanese Restaurant in Sydney CBD
The space is small and intimate (seats around 30 people), with simple, traditional decor that hasn’t changed much over the years—and that’s part of the charm. It’s not flashy; it’s about the food. Midweek visits are easy for walk-ins, but on Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays, definitely call ahead to reserve (02 9283 2990) as it fills up fast with locals and regulars.
Juicy Chicken Yakitori at Nazimi Japanese Restaurant Sydney CBD
Fresh Small Sashimi Plate at Nazimi Japanese Restaurant
What I Ate on My Recent Visits (All Hits!)
Sushi Platter (6 pieces): The fish is incredibly fresh—melt-in-your-mouth quality with that perfect balance of rice and topping. The wasabi is real, fresh-grated, and packs a sharp, clean kick (none of that green paste nonsense). Pure perfection.
Agedashi Tofu: One of my absolute favorite vegetarian dishes here. Crispy-on-the-outside, silky-soft tofu in a deeply savory, umami-rich agedashi sauce with bonito flakes dancing on top. Comforting and addictive.
Sashimi Platter: Super fresh selection including Tasmanian scallops (a rare treat—sweet, tender, and buttery; they sat beautifully between the lemon slices in my photo), alongside classic tuna and salmon. First time trying sashimi scallops, and they were outstanding.
Yakitori Chicken Skewers: Tender, juicy chicken with just the right char for that smoky, BBQ flavor. I could easily devour 10—these are dangerously good!
Nazimi Japanese Restaurant: Fresh Small Sushi Plate
Agedashi Tofu at Nazimi
The staff are genuinely lovely—warm, attentive Japanese hospitality at its best. They remembered me from previous visits and even thanked me personally for coming back. Little touches like that make you feel valued.
One cool perk: A sign by the register offers a 3% discount if you pay cash—smart move in these high-credit-card-fee times, and surprisingly rare these days!
Other Popular Dishes to Try Next Time
From reviews and the menu buzz, here are some crowd favorites I’ll be eyeing on my next visit:
Tuna Tataki (seared tuna with ponzu—fresh and zingy)
Karaage Chicken (crispy, juicy fried chicken—always a winner)
Softshell Crab Tartlet or Tempura items
Unagi Kabayaki (grilled eel—sweet-savory glaze perfection)
Wagyu Steak or Teriyaki Chicken mains
Dragon Roll or creative sushi rolls
Creamy Eggplant (nasu dengaku-style, rich and indulgent)
Takoyaki or Gyoza for fun bites
Nazimi delivers authentic, high-quality Japanese food at reasonable prices in a welcoming, unpretentious setting. It’s not about the Instagram backdrop—it’s about the freshness and flavor that keeps me (and so many others) coming back. If you’re in Sydney CBD and want real-deal Japanese without the crowds or pretense, this is your spot.I’ll be back soon—probably for more yakitori and that agedashi tofu!

The pizza was excellent. Just a traditional, simple Italian pizza, with some very spice chilli salami, San Marzano tomato sauce, fior de latte, bocconcini, fresh basil & oregano. May 2, 2024I have eaten ramen at Ippudo in Tokyo a few times. They are a famous ramen chain with restaurnants all over Japan and they are famous for their Tonkotsu pork based broth. I am a big fan of the ramen they serve in Tokyo so I went into their ramen shop at Westfields Sydney, located right in the heart of the Sydney city CBD. How was the ramen in Sydney? Very underwhelming! This is not a bad ramen, just a stock standard ramen, nothing bad, nothing special. Honestly it was a disappointment as I’ve really enjoyed the ramen in Tokyo. Would I eat at Ippodu Sydney again? No way…..there are too many other great ramen available in Sydney, to eat average ramen!
Ippudo Ramen Restaurant Sydney Westfields
The Ippodu Ramen Restaurant in Westfields Sydney is located on level 5. It is a very impressive looking restaurant all decked out in wood. They obviously spent alot of money setting up the restaurant.

Ippudo Ramen Noodle Soup Restaurant Sydney
It only took a few minutes from when I ordered before the ramen was brought to my table. It looked good but I noticed the ramen broth was very thin. You can tell when a broth is slow cooked as it will be nice and thick. The longer you cook it, the more flavour it has. In this case, the broth at Ippudo was not really packed full of flavour.
Shiromaru Classic Ramen at Ippudo Sydney Westfields
I did hit the ramen with chilli oil which suped up the flavour!
Added Chilli Oil to the ramen at Ippudo
The cha sui pork slices looked good as well but they were a bit firm, didn’t melt in my mouth like a slow cooked pork slice. I saw the chef pull the pork slices out of a bag that looked like it has come from the fridge. Who knows how long it had been sitting there. It also had a bit of a funky flavour, so doubt this was fresh.
Roast Pork slices at Ippudo Ramen Restaurant Sydney
I went for the classic Shiromaru ramen which was $20 for the bowl which seems to be the standard going rate for ramen in Sydney city area. When I went to pay, they rang up $22. I asked what the extra $2 was for. They pointed at a sign above the cash register which stated 10% surcharge for Sunday!
Overall a disappointment! I will just have to save up and fly to Tokyo to get some really good Ippudo ramen noodle soup!

April 29, 2024Made in Italy is a hole in the wall pizzeria, located in a small laneway, directly above Wynyard Train Station in the Sydney CBD city area. This is a very popular pizza joint as it is located near so many office buildings, so is busy day and night. Made in Italy has been serving up delicious pizza in Sydney CBD since 2000.
Made in Italy Sydney CBD
There is no actual dining room at Made in Italy, there are some basic table and chairs out in the laneway, so take-away is the best option.

My last visit I went for their classic Americana Pizza which comes with tomato base, mozerella cheese, spicy salami and oregano. This is a very simple pizza but one of my favourites. The pizza crust is very thin and crispy, just the way I like it. The base it not so hard so still flexes when you pick up the pizza.

April 28, 2024I rate Shalom Indonesian Restaurant in Sydney City CBD as the best Indonesian restaurant in Sydney! I’ve traveled to Indonesia many times and have been eating at Shalom Restaurant for many years, as the food here is as authentic as you can find outside of Indonesia. This is a very popular Indonesia restaurant by local Indonesians, it is usually majority of people in the restuarant are from Indonesia.
Located on Sussex Street in the heart of Sydney CBD Central Busines District, just down from Sydney Chinatown. Shalom Restaurant was one of the first Indonesian restaurants to open in Sydney, dating back to the 1990s. All the food at Shalom Indonesian Restaurant is Halal.
Inside Shalom Indonesia Restaurant Sydney CBD
If you have never tried Indonesian food then I highly recommend you start with one of the National dishes of Indonesia – the Nasi Lemak. This is a pile of rice, with various different dishes served around the rice, from roasted peanuts, fried anchovy, a chicken curry or a beef randang and served with some vegetables like cucumber and a boiled egg.
Nasi Lemak at Shalom Indonesian Restaurant Sydney CBD
Another must try dish at Shalom is the Chicken sate. These chicken skewers are grilled over hot coals and then covered with a spicy peanut satay sauce. The chicken pieces are nice and big. A decent very decent serving. The peanut sauce is a little bit spicy but nto so spicy.
Chicken Satay at Shalom Indonesian Restaurant Sydney CBD
Another taste explosion is from their Chicken Soto (Chicken Soup). This is packed full of flavour, a very generous serving of thick noodles inside the soup and some boiled egg. The soup is thick, with very complex flavours as the soup is slow cooked with many different herbs and spices. Another highly recommended dish at Shalom!

April 27, 2024Torotoro Ramen Bar is a small but excellent ramen restaurant located in Barangaroo Sydney. This place specialises in ramen and they do it so well! The ramen here is not cheap, but a very high quality ramen noodle soup cooked with love.

Open for lunch and dinner (closed on Sunday), this place gets super busy at lunch time with the office workers flocking to get their fix of delicious Japanese ramen noodle soup.

I had their OG Ramen noodle soup which has a Tonkotsu Broth, Pork Chashu, Shallot, Nori, Seasoned Egg, Garlic Chips, Black Fungus and Menma. At $24 for the bowl, you can definitely get a cheaper ramen noodle soup in Sydney CBD but I doubt you will get a better ramen. They slow cook their broth for up to 8 hours, making a thick, complex broth wacked full of flavour. The broth is so thick it sticks to the noodles.
OG Ramen at Torotoro Ramen Bar Barangaroo
Most of their ramens are made with a pork bone broth but they do have a Vegorama ramen with a vegetable broth soup.
I love how the kitchen is open so you can see all the action of the chefs preparing the ramen and cooking all the side dishes. Most of all I like open kitchens as it forces them to keep the kitchen clean and tidy, ensuring a high standard for food quality.

April 26, 2024Medusa Greek Taverna in the Sydney City Central Business District is an awesome restaurant to enjoy some traditional Greek food. Medusa Greek Taverna has been serving up Greek food for over 40 years and still going strong. A very popular city restaurant, very busy at lunch times as well as at dinner time.
Inside Medusa Greek Taverna Sydney
I’ve been into Medusa twice. First time was a solo mission to try their food. I had their classic chicken souvlaki plate which comes with a large chicken souvlaki skewer (the chicken pieces are massive), served with chips, salad and pita bread. This is a big meal! I am a big eater and I couldn’t finish it. Very generous servings!
Chicken Souvlaki meal at Medusa Greek Taverna Sydney
I recently went back for a team lunch and went for their awesome Lunch special set meal which is only $39 per person only available weekdays. This was a massive feast, with a great selection of different Greek foods.
First up came the entree platter which comes with Taramosalata, tzatziki, halloumi, country style sausages, dolmades, lima beans with pita. They also served up a plate of calamari which was delicious (sorry no pic of the calamari….i forgot…too busy filling my mouth).
Entree at Medusa Greek Taverna Sydney
The food kept up coming with an amazing Greek salad topped with a massive slab of feta cheese which just crumbled apart.

Then the main meals came out with a massive slab of NSW New England roast lamb shoulder with very tasty lemon potatoes, peas and jus lié There was also a vegetarian dish of Baby eggplants filled with aromatic blend of herbs, onions, garlic, tomato served on char fennel – again no pic….too busy eating the lamb!

Another main meal was the Chicken Souvlaki which I had previously but was just as delicious. The herbs and spices the chicken is cooked in are spot on delicious.

At the end of the meal they served a small plate of delicious Greek Loukoumia (greek rose delights) – similar to Turkish Delight but I am sure the Greeks invented this first!

This is an awesome, must try restaurant. The food is fantastic, the service was excellent, with the owner of the restaurant personally checking on our table to make sure everything was as expected.
The decor in the restaurant is your typical Greek scenery with what I imagine pictures of the Greek islands. 10/10 for this restaurant. I look forward to another Greek feast here!

April 26, 2024Manjit’s @ The Wharf opened at King Street Wharf Sydney in October 2015. Manjit’s has been running an Indian restaurant in Balmain since 1984. With over 30 years experience it has now expanded to the iconic King Street Wharf with great views over Darling Harbour.
The view from Manjit’s @ The Wharf Indian Restaurant Sydney
The best tables to get are the ones of the terrace which have awesome views over the water across to the Maritime Museum and to the Star Casino. I was there for lunch on a nice hot November afternoon and was delightful sitting on the terrace with a nice breeze coming in off the water.
The food at Manjit’s is awesome! This was my first visit but I will be back for sure! I started with an entrée of Gol Gol Gappa which are small crisp round pastry balls filled with spiced chickpeas and potato and you pour a sweet/sour and tangy sauce inside the pastry ball before popping the whole thing in your mouth. The waiter I had told me that these were very popular all over India. Not just a delicious street food sold by small vendors but even in the fancy 5 star restaurants. He said that in India it is served using much more spice, loads more chilli and the sauce was even more spicy to burn your mouth. They have been tamed down at Manjit’s to suit the Australian palette.
Gol Gol Gappa entree at Manjit’s Restaurant King Street Wharf
For main course I had the Chicken madras curry which was awesome. Rather than rice I had the naan which is cooked in the tandoor oven. The chicken pieces were large sizes in the most delicious curry sauce. I downed all the chicken and mopped up the sauce with the naan bread. Just delightful!
Chicken Madras curry at Manjit’s @ The Wharf Sydney
Naan bread at Manjit’s @ The Wharf Sydney
As this restaurant is in a very touristy area of Sydney and with views of Sydney Harbour then the prices are a bit higher than your normal Indian restaurant in Sydney but with the awesome service and very high quality food then the prices are well warranted.
Manjit’s Indian Restaurant King Street Wharf Sydney
The restaurant has a minimum spend per person for lunch and dinner – $30 per person for lunch and $35 per person for dinner. They also charge a 10% surcharge on Sundays and Public Holidays and a 3% surcharge on American Express credit card payments.
I recently went back for a team lunch at Manjit’s and got to try more for the delicious Indian food. This really is a great Indian restaurant in the Sydney CBD area.
We had a feast of Gol Gappa, Naan bread, Chicken Tikka curry, Chicken Biryanyi, Goat Curry and a Paneer Curry. All top quality and delicious.

October 6, 2023Zushi Japanese Restaurant is a permanent restaurant located on Wulugul Walk in Barangaroo, right at the front near the Sydney Harbour foreshore. Zushi have had a successful Japanese restaurant in Darlinghurst since 2005 and another restaurant in Surry Hills. This new restaurant in Barangaroo is their 3rd restaurant in Sydney.

I can highly recommend the sushi served at Zushi. I went in with some work colleagues and we all had a plate of the mixed sushi which was fresh, very well presented and delicious!

For lunch I went for the Chicken Donburi which is Chicken Teriyaki in a large bowl of rice served with Asian greens. Apart from the delicious chicken with a small topping of teriyaki sauce, I felt this dish was a little underwhelming. This was unlike any Japanese donburi dish I have had before. A big pile of Chinese vegetable leaf was a bit bland with the large pile of rice.
Chicken Donburi at Zushi Japanese Restaurant
The sauce on the chicken wasn’t enough to add flavor to the vegetables or all of the rice. In the bowl was also a large pile of sliced ginger usually served with sushi (Gari – sweet pickled ginger). I do love this gari ginger but a bit unusual in a donburi. The prices here are also higher than the Darlinghurst restaurant (Barangaroo prices!). This Chicken Donburi is $17 in the Barangaroo restaurant, $15 in their Darlinghurst restaurant.

As I was leaving the restaurant I walked past a table which were all enjoying the large bento boxes I will be back soon to try so stay tuned for more pics.

October 6, 2023Muum Maam Thai Restaurant in Barangaroo Sydney is my top pick of restaurants in Barangaroo. Serving up good quality, authentic Thai food. Muum Maam Thai in Barangarro is an extension to the popular Muum Maam Thai Restaurant in Surry Hills.
Muum Maam Thai Restaurant Barangaroo
Right down on the waterfront of Baragangaroo, Muum Maam serves up a great range of Thai food. Open for lunch and dinner. The lunch menu in the Barangaroo restaurant has a larger selection than at the Surry Hills location.
I went in for a quick casual lunch and started off the some of the most delicious chicken satay sticks I have had in a long time. The chicken skewers were well grilled and had 2 dipping sauces, a delicious, spicy peanut satay sauce and a small bowl of Nam Jin spicy sauce.
Chicken Satay at Muum Maam Thai Barangaroo
For main I went for the slow cooked beef served with crispy egg noodles. All the other curries on the menu are served with rice though the big pile of egg noodles are ample to soak up the delicious curry sauce. There are big chunks of beef which just falls apart with a touch of your fork. So tender and so delicious.

I went in for dinner for a quick bite to eat. I had the wood fired pizza which was so good, I stayed for an excellent dessert too. I choose the Diavola pizza which comes with slices of spicy salami, fior di latte stretched cheese and a simple tomato sauce. The pizza base was sensational, one of the best I have eaten in Sydney. It was slightly charred on the edges, soft, chewing and just delicious. This is simple pizza, as good as you get in Italy.

July 9, 2022Gold Class Daruma is an excellent Fine Dining Japanese Restaurant in the heart of the Sydney CBD within the Grace Hotel on York Street.
I have had many great Japanese Dining experiences. Some are better than others and I can honestly say the meal I had at Gold Class Daruma was a true Gastro-orgasmic experience.
Gold Class Daruma do have set degustation menus but you need to book these weeks in advance I booked to dine there at short notice so was limited to the Al a carte menu. Well it was not a limited experience as all the food I had was amazing.
I had skipped lunch so I could eat a big dinner of some of my favourite Japanese dishes.
First up a plate of mixed sushi, some of the best I have had. The sushi rice was cooked to perfection and each of the fish were so fresh. Each piece seemed to melt in my mouth giving a flavour explosion. So good!
Next up some very tasty kara-age fried chicken. Forget about KFC! Japanese Fried Chicken is some of the best in the world.
Finally I had a plate of mixed tempura. A great selection of fish, seafood and mixed vegetable. The Tempura batter was so light and crispy.
With my meal I knocked back a few Japanese beers and some excellent sake. The restaurant has a ‘sake sommelier’ who came over and explained the sake menu and made some recommendations. I do like sake but don’t really know much about the different tastes like dry or sweet so was good to get a recommendation.
I plan to get back and try the full degustation experience. There were a number of people sitting at the counter where they had a private chef preparing their dishes and then explaining each as they were served. The ‘sake sommelier’ was also serving them different sake throughout their meal. Looked like an excellent dining experience. I will book ahead so I make sure I do not miss out. Expect to pay over $100 per person if you are drinking beers, wine and sake with your meal.
I would rate this as one of the top Japanese restaurants in Sydney! Go give it a go!

While most Japanese restaurants serve the traditional Tonkotsu (pork based broth) ramen noodle soup, O’Uchi only serve a chicken or beef based broth or the full vegetarian based broth. The traditional ramen noodles are egg based noodles so if you want a full vegan style ramen noodle soup, you can get them to replace the ramen noodles with rice noodles – this is gluten free.

I went in and enjoyed their Veggie Gyoza Ramen $18 which has the vegetarian broth soup and comes with delicious Japanese dumplings which are filled with a vegetable mix. I had an soft boiled egg added but you an leave this out.

Another time I went in and tried their chicken based broth ramen soup with karaage chicken $16.50. This was my favourite. The chicken broth is full of flavour and the karaage chicken was awesome!

February 8, 2022Tao Restaurant is a top class Chinese restaurant in the heart of Sydney CBD which serves up modern Cantonese food. A range of yum cha style dumplings, meat, seafood and noodle dishes all at the a very high standard. This is a great fine dining restaurant but without the high fine dining prices. The food at Tao are all reasonably priced.

I found Tao by doing a Google search, looking for a restaurant close to Town Hall. I had never walked down this part of Clarence Street, so luckily Google showed me a link to Tao Restaurant. I went in and tried their food, and I liked it so much I went back the next night for more. I very rarely go back a 2nd time so close to the first visit but the food was just as good as my first nights experience.
Inside Tao Restaurant
On the first night, I had some of their prawn and chives har gao dumplings ($15) which were excellent. This came with a side plate of home made chilli sauce which was the best I have ever had. There were also some chopped chilli in soy sauce.

For a main I had the crispy skin chicken ($29) which came with a Shandong sauce dripped over it (soy sauce based with pineapple). This was a huge serving which I struggled to finish. Bring a friend to help you finish this excellent dish.

On the second night I had 3 entree dishes which i thought I could finish but ended up having to take half of this home and having it the next day for lunch. First I had the pork and chive dumplings ($18).

I also had the Shepherd’s purse wontons ($18). I thought these were going to be lamb dumplings based on the name of Shepherd’s but these were pork wonton dumplings which were soaked in red chilli oil and sesame paste. These were the star of the show and were just as good the next day for lunch (cold).

Last dish was the Chicken San Choy Boa ($16). I have only ever had pork san choy boa before and while I did enjoy this chicken version, I think it is much better served with pork!

I can highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner. Not just for a special occasion but any time you are looking for a good Chinese feed or just a simple plate of yum cha dumplings.
