Shunjuu Izakaya is a very cool, casual dining Japanese Restaurant located on Robertson Quay Singapore, just a short walk from Clarke Quay. An Izakaya is a casual drinking/eating house in Japan, sometimes described as Japanese Tapas as you order lots of small dishes rather than one main meal.

Shunjuu specalise in ‘Sumiyaki’ which is skewers of meat, seafood and vegetables cooked and seasoned over a hot charcoal grill. Give me meat on a stick any day! They also have a great drinks menu with imported Japanese beer as well as 60 Nihonshu (Japanese sake) on the menu. I went in for lunch so didn’t get to try any of the sake though will be back for dinner so I can kick back and try a few.

They have a fully air-conditioned dining room or you can sit out the front of the restaurant al fresco style, with a nice view over the Singapore River.

I tried a few of the dishes off the menu including the yakitori chicken skewers which were so tender and tasty. I also had the prawn tempura which were awesome. The prawns were large and plump and perfect with the tempura dipping sauce. I also had the chicken karaage, deep fried to perfection, perfect with the beer I had.
