Ta-Ke Sushi Restaurant Ao Nang Krabi

Ta-Ke Sushi Restaurant Ao Nang Krabi
Three skilled chefs behind the traditional sushi counter – excellent Japanese spot in Ao Nang, Krabi, Thailand.

Tucked away at the northern end of Ao Nang Beach, Ta-Ke Sushi Restaurant (also known as Take Sushi Aonang) sits upstairs from Bamboo Beach Sports Bar. This hidden gem delivers authentic Japanese cuisine in a charming bamboo-decked setting that feels worlds away from the busy main strip.

Ambiance and Location

The restaurant features heavy bamboo decor, creating a warm, traditional vibe. Inside, a classic sushi counter showcases fresh fish in a refrigerated cabinet, with 3–4 skilled chefs preparing dishes. No direct counter seating exists, but tables nearby offer great views of the action. The real highlight lies on the balcony — outdoor tables provide relaxing sea breezes and glimpses of the water through the bars below (especially from the corner spot). A pleasant 15-minute sunset stroll along the beachfront leads here, passing tempting happy hour spots.

Menu Highlights

The extensive Japanese menu goes beyond sushi, though sushi and sashimi dominate with pages of creative rolls. Other options include:

  • Donburi rice bowls
  • Japanese curry
  • Kamameshi (traditional one-pot rice)
  • Nabe (hot pot, sumo wrestler favorite)
  • Ramen
  • Tonkatsu
  • Tempura
  • Hida tabletop grills for DIY meat, seafood, or veggies

I tried the salmon avocado sushi rolls served with some fresh wasabi — the avocado twist feels more Australian than traditional Japanese, so I enjoyed it separately with the fresh salmon and subtly nutty rice (darker than standard white sushi rice). The tonkatsu stood out: perfectly cooked premium pork loin in golden panko, paired with rich, thick tonkatsu sauce. The side Japanese potato salad was creamy and addictive — Japan truly masters this simple dish!

Drinks and Service

Happy Hour runs with 16 cocktails at 160 THB. Asahi beer arrives in frosted glasses straight from the freezer — a thoughtful Japanese touch.Service shines with 6+ attentive staff, photo menus for easy ordering, and a family-friendly atmosphere. Prices sit mid-range for Ao Nang’s quality.

Practical Info

  • Opening Hours: Daily 11:00 AM – Midnight
  • Address: Upstairs Bamboo Beach Club, along the main road near the northern end of Ao Nang Beach, Krabi, Thailand
  • Website/Facebook: facebook.com/Takesushiaonang
  • Reservations recommended for dinner, though tables were available around 6 PM (restaurant half-full when I left).

Ta-Ke delivers my top dining experience in Ao Nang — superior to Kaze (better atmosphere, even if food is close) and far above Ebisu Dining across the road. For authentic Japanese flavors, stunning balcony views, and excellent service, this spot is a must-visit in Krabi.

Highly recommended — 5/5 for Japanese food lovers!
