Tandoori Hut, Ao Nang – A Cheeky Curry Conquest
Best Rated Indian in Ao Nang?
Picture this: I rock up to Tandoori Hut—the highest-rated Indian restaurant in Ao Nang—on December 21, 2025, fresh off the plane and conveniently parked next door at Ao Nang Village Hotel (nice budget hotel)– talk about fate winking at me! The menu’s a beast with 329 items (who needs that many choices? Decision paralysis much?), but I dove straight into the classics, judging them by my gold standard: Vegetable Samosas (100 Thb) & Chicken Tikka Masala (250 THB).

The sauce in the Masala? Spot-on tasty – rich, creamy, and packing just the right tomato tang. Big, tender chicken chunks that fell apart like they knew they were defeated.

But… where’s the party? It was literally just sauce and chicken – no sneaky onions, no rogue tomatoes, and definitely no green capsicum to elevate it to the superstar status of my all-time fave at Majit’s Wharf Hotel in Sydney (sorry, Tandoori Hut, you’re good, but not that good… yet).

Sides saved the day: The mango chutney was pure tropical bliss – sweet, tangy perfection that had me spooning it straight. Mint sauce? Solid, with a cheeky little kick of spice that woke things up. But the undisputed hero? That garlic naan – fluffy edges like pillows, thin crispy center for that satisfying snap. Best of both worlds; I could’ve made a meal of it alone.

Washed it down with a large Singha beer – cold, crisp and only 120 THB A$5.80 (How much does your schooner cost you in Australia?). 80 Thb for a small Singha. $A3.90.

Verdict: Solid 8/10 – flavorful, affordable, and dangerously convenient (next door for my next 10 nights? Dangerous for my waistline!). I’ll be back… probably tomorrow. If you’re craving Indian without the bells (or capsicum), this hut’s your spot. Just don’t tell my Sydney fave I cheated.
Damage: Just over 500 Baht A$24, GBP12 for a very decent meal.
What I didn’t like
I was sitting at the front seat for some prime people watching. A few days before Xmas, Ao Nang is packed full of tourists. The restaurant has 2 touts out the front trying to get people to come in the restaurant – very typical for Indian restaurants in Thailand. I had to watch them hound every tourist that walked past.
They charge 3% fee on top of credit card payments.
