Asiatique The Riverfront – Bangkok Night Markets
Asiatique The Riverfront is a huge open air market located right next to the Chao Praya River in the heart of Bangkok. The markets are spread out over a huge area with loads of small stalls located within huge hangers which used to be used for industrial purposes.
Asiatique markets were originally sawmills with the wood being delivered from the river front. During World War II the Japanese took control of these warehouses for storing ammunitions. In the early 2000s this area was renovated and converted in to the now Asiatique The Riverfront markets.
You will find all the stuff you expect to find in a market in Thailand. Loads of fashion, shoes, leather products, gifts, arts and crafts and homeware. The are loads of small boutique clothes stores with fashion you will not find anywhere else.
Asiatique also has loads of restaurants and bars. There is a simple food court selling cheap Asian food including Thai and Vietnamese food as well as some up markets restaurants located along the river front. There are also some fast food restaurants at Asiatique including KFC.
To the side of Asiatique is a small amusement park with rides suitable for children as well as a huge ferris wheel which gives great views over the Bangkok city area and down the Chao Praya River.
Also within Asiatique is the Calypso Cabaret Show which has been performing cabaret shows in Bangkok for more than 30 years. The cabaret show is performed by many of the gorgeous Thai transgender performers.
