Sun and Moon Urban Hotel is one of the best boutique hotels in Phnom Penh Cambodia. Located right on 136 Street Phnom Penh, it is a very short stroll to some of the best beer bars in Phnom Penh. 136 Street is often referred to as pub street or noisy street. With bars open 24 hours a day, it does get busy and noisy but that section of pub street is 2 blocks away, so the street front of this hotel is relatively quiet.

The Sun and Moon Urban Hotel is in an excellent location, walking distance to many of the most popular tourist attractions in Phnom Penh. It is a 4 minute walk down to the Mekong River Waterfront which is a busy street lined with restaurants, hotels, massage spas and a nice boardwalk along the Mekong River. Right at the riverfront you will find Phnom Penh Night Market which is a great place to come at night time for some great Cambodian street food. It is also 15 minutes walk to Wat Phnom, the largest Buddhist temple in Phnom Penh. Also a 5 minute walk to the Central Markets which is the place to come during the day for traditional Asian markets selling fresh fruit and vegetables, souvenirs and a great selection of street food.

The rooms

The rooms are modern and very clean, with a trendy look and some interesting artwork on the walls. My room had 3 portraits of Paul McCartney, Sharon Stone and Princess Diana. Such an eclectic selection of pictures. I rooms have a large window and thick curtain that closes and keeps most of the light out so you not waken with the sun coming up in the morning.

The bathrooms

The bathrooms are partitioned off from the bedroom with curtain giving a bit of privacy. There is a seperate shower and western toilet.

There is good water pressure and a large shower head so a great shower.

One of the highlights of the Sun and Moon Urban Hotel, is the infinity pool on the rooftop with amazing views right over the city centre and across to the river. The hotel is only 2 blocks away from the riverfront.

Cloud 9 Skybar

On the rooftop, next to the swimming pool is the very cool Cloud 9 Skybar. With a great view over the city centre and riverside, Cloud 8 Skbar is the perfect place for a few sunset beers. Happy hour is from 5pm to 8pm when you get 3 beers for the price of 2. Beers are US$3 per glass of tap beer.

Unplug Bar

There is a 2nd bar at Sun and Moon Hotel on the ground floor as you first walk into the foyer. Unglug is a relaxed bar where you can have a quiet drink away from the hustle and bustle of Pub Street. It does get too many people drinking at this bar as most guest will head up to the rooftop bar.

Great Service

The staff are lovely and very helpful. A porter brings your bag to your room, and when I apologies for noting having cash to give him a tip, he just honestly smiled and said no problem mister.

Gym

Located on the same level as the swimming pool is the fully kitted out gymnasium with a few cardio walking machines and bicycles, but also a good set of free weights.

1 level down from the Gymnasium is a steam room and spa.

Sauna and spa

Buffet Breakfast

On the ground floor, right next to reception is a small restaurant where they serve up a decent buffet breakfast. There is not a huge selections of foods but a good selection of hot dishes, breads and pastries and fresh fruit. Enough food for an excellent breakfast. The coffee is also excellent, well much better than the Singapore coffee I’ve been eating for the last week.

WiFi Internet Access

There is free WiFi Internet Access available all throughout the hotel including strong connection in your room. I could easily browse the internet and upload video and content. Youtube streaming works fine.

No balconies

Te only disappointment I had with this hotel is that the rooms do not have balconies. They door have a window that only opens up slight, just enough to reach out the window to look straight down Pub Street Phnom Penh.

My Ratings of Sun and Moon Urban Hotel

I came with low expectations but was really impressed with most aspects of this hotel. I would give it a full 10 markets if they had balconies. Well some rooms do have balconies, you just have to pay more for those rooms.

All up I couldn’t find any reason not to give this hotel a 9/10!
